Observing MLK Day

“Human progress is neither automatic, nor inevitable. … Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.”   — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today, January 20, 2025, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  At Center for Knit and Crochet we believe the love of creating knows no boundaries, and we are committed to promoting and supporting diversity in our organization by continuously addressing the aspirations and concerns of Black people, Indigenous people and  People of Color (BIPOC) as makers, members, content creators, scholars, and leaders within the craft community.

CKC pledges to keep moving forward, expanding awareness and access to this new digital museum of knitting and crochet, and welcoming, serving, and inspiring makers in every community to preserve their own craft histories for future generations using CKC’s free digital collections. Only then will we have created and preserved a more complete and inclusive history of these crafts.

We invite you to join us in this important work, in your own way, and as you are able. A couple of resources to follow within our craft and maker community are BIPOCInFiber and RadicleThreads.

This knitted banner contributed to CKC’s Community Collection in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd expresses solidarity with protestors for racial justice.
