What Personally Identifiable Information is Collected and How is it Used

In general, we use your personal information to provide you with personalized service related to your interest in and/or membership in The Center for Knit and Crochet — to send email alerts to you about our activities; to answer your questions and requests; to process your membership or donor forms; etc. We look at website visitor statistics, generally, to determine which of our features are the most popular so we can better serve our users’ needs.  We may also provide aggregate data about our traffic (not identifying you personally) to outside parties.  You can choose to opt out at any time, which will cease all communications from us.  In addition to the above:

  1. Individuals who sign up to receive The Center for Knit and Crochet’s e-communications voluntarily provide us with contact information (such as name and email address) that we may use to keep you informed about our activities. You can always “opt out,” either now, or at any time in the future, if you do not wish to receive our e-communications.
  2. Individuals who become members, volunteer, or make a donation voluntarily provide us with their contact information (such as name, email address, phone, and USPS address) that we may use to keep you informed about our activities, send membership renewal reminders, acknowledge new and renewing members, solicit appeals, and share program information. You can always “opt out,” either now, or at any time in the future, if you do not wish to receive our e-communications.
  3. Individuals who contribute to The Center for Knit and Crochet’s Crowdsourced Collection voluntarily provide us with their name, a contact email, a description, and photographs of the item in their collection.  We may use this information to contact you about your contribution, and to keep you informed about our activities.

All contributors to the Crowdsourced Collection are provided the option to have their name hidden from public view.  However, if you are not the maker of the object you are contributing, and the maker is still living, that person may also have rights regarding how the object is attributed and/or described in public.  In such cases, and until a coherent privacy policy can be more broadly developed among collecting institutions for online collections like CKC’s, please be courteous and ask permission before posting any personal details or works of living persons in CKC’s public online resource.

Further, please be advised that by uploading objects to the CKC’s Crowdsourced Collection, you grant CKC and others the rights to use your content under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License (otherwise known as the “CC BY 3.0 License”), which allows CKC and others to freely re-use and adapt the content you have uploaded with proper attribution.  Read more about the Terms of Service.
